UConn’s Haynes named AP All-American for 2nd straight season

UConn may have had a surprisingly bad year given all the positive momentum coming from the 2022 campaign, but one guy in particular still played at an elite level.

Redshirt-senior offensive lineman Christian Haynes earned third team Associated Press All-American honors on Monday. It’s the second straight year Haynes was named to the AP’s third team and he is now the first Husky to earn All-American recognition in two different years during the program’s FBS era.

Haynes is now also just the third player in UConn’s FBS era to be named an All-American along with former running backs Jordan Todman (2010) and Donald Brown (2008).

Haynes has been on the All-American radar for th AP all season. He was named a Mid-Season All-American (2nd team) back in October. Haynes has been invited to play in the 2024 East-West Shrine Bowl and has already accepted an invitation to play in the Reese’s Senior Bowl, the biggest stage there is for potential NFL Drat picks prior to the big weekend in April.

Haynes started all 12 games for UConn and was a massive reason why the Huskies’ offensive line allowed just 12 sacks on the season (1.0 pg), ranking 9th in all of FBS. Haynes was the definition of consistency for Jim Mora and the program and was a guy that easily could have gone to a much larger program had he hopped in the portal. Ultimately, Haynes finished his UConn career making 49 straight starts.
