UConn football snapped a two-game skid and climbed back to .500 on Saturday afternoon, securing a 34-20 victory over Temple at Lincoln Financial Field. Behind a dominant rushing attack, clutch second-half defense, and complementary play across all three phases, the Huskies controlled the game late to pull away from their former AAC rival.
The early stages of the game featured fireworks, as the two teams combined for 21 points in under five minutes. Temple opened the scoring with an explosive start, but UConn answered quickly and erased a 17-14 second-quarter deficit by scoring 10 unanswered points before halftime.
The Huskies’ offense compiled 505 total yards, powered by an efficient and balanced physical approach. Kalieb Osborne directed finished with 257 passing yards while adding a touchdown on the ground. The run game took over in the second half, led by Trey Cornist, who exploded for 114 rushing yards on just seven carries, including a 51-yard touchdown run. Cyncir Bowers chipped in 84 rushing yards and a score, capping off a 10-play, 62-yard drive in the second half that effectively put the contest out of reach.
After allowing 17 points across Temple’s first three possessions, the UConn defense locked down the Owls. The defensive unit held Temple to just a single field goal for the remainder of the game, forcing two fumbles, registering four sacks, and constantly applying pressure behind linebackers Braedyn Moore and K’Von Sherman.
Head Coach Jason Candle praised the grit and composure his team showed coming off back-to-back heartbreaking defeats.
“From that point, our offense never blinked,” Candle said of his squad’s response after trailing in the second quarter. “We used a long drive to take a two-possession lead, and with how the defense was dialed in during the second half, we played the exact kind of poised, complementary football we’ve been searching for all season.”
Candle also emphasized the growth of the team’s mental toughness amidst midseason adversity.
“This team showed real character today,” Candle added. “Coming on the road and executing in all three phases after a couple of tough weeks speaks volumes about the culture we’re building here. We stepped up when it mattered most, but we have to keep raising our standard as we head into the second half of the schedule.”
The win moves UConn to 3-3 on the season as the Huskies prepare to return home. Jack O’Connor converted two field goals and four extra points to round out the scoring, ensuring UConn walked out of Philadelphia with a complete team victory.
