The Patriots visit the Cincinnati Bengals this week. The Bengals will be missing several key players, most notably Joe Burrow, JaMarr Chase and Trey Hendricksen. Despite those two being out, this is still a talented team that could pose some problems for the Patriots despite being historically bad on defense.
Here are five of the key match ups to watch.
Christian Gonzalez vs. Tee Higgins: With Ja’Marr Chase out due to a suspension, Gonzalez will be tasked with defending Higgins who spends most of his time lined up as the X receiver. It should be a good match up between two players who can be physical in contested catch situations. Gonzalez will have have his hands full with Higgins length but he has the ball skills to match up.
K’Lavon Chaisson vs. Orlando Brown: Brown has struggled at times this season and he will have his hands full with Chaisson who has length and is explosive off the snap. He closes quickly and and wins with speed and lean. This should be a favorable match up for the Patriots.
Will Campbell vs. Myles Murphy: Campbell has been terrific over the course of the past month. He is really starting to come into his own. He catches a break not having to face Trey Hendricksen but Murphy is long and plays with good bend. Campbell will have to win with his footwork and positioning.
Stefon Diggs vs. DJ Turner: The Bengals secondary is historically bad and they will be without Cam Taylor-Britt today. That means DJ Turner on Stefon Diggs, which means Diggs should have another big day at the office and another 100 yard receiving day.
Patriots Front 7 vs. Chase Brown: Brown has been a bright spot for the Bengals as their running game has been good this season. The Patriots front seven will be challenged, especially with Milton Williams out. Proper run fits and being in good position will be key for the Patriots today.
