Top 5 matchups to watch in the Colts-Patriots game

The Patriots host a familiar opponent today when the Indianapolis Colts come to Foxboro. The two teams are facing off for the fourth straight season so there is a lot of familiarity between them.

The Colts won last season’s meeting in Germany, 10-6 in one of the worst losses in recent Patriots history.

New England will look to avenge that loss today. In order to do that, they must win the individual match-ups in this game first.

Here are five match-ups to keep an eye on today.

Michael Pittman vs. Christian Gonzalez: Expect Gonzo to line up on Pittman a lot today, especially if the Patriots decide to get after Anthony Richardson and bring more pressure. I expect them to play mostly man coverage today.

Bernhard Raimann vs. Yannick Ngokwe: Ngokwe has settled into his role as a pass rush specialist and has a favorable match up today against Raimann who is banged up and dealing with a knee issue. I would fully expect the Patriots to rotate their pass rushers and get them on Raimann as much as possible today.

Mo Alie-Cox vs. Kyle Dugger: Alie-Cox is a former basketball player. He is a good athlete who can win one on one in jump ball situations. He is a tough cover. If the Patriots play as much man as I think they will in this game, Cox will be matched up with Dugger a bunch.

Kwity Paye vs. Vedarian Lowe: Paye is a Rhode Island native and the Colts best pure pass rusher. He will play the LDE as a wide five technique and could Lowe some problems. Lowe had a tough game last week against the Dolphins. He will need to be better this week against the speedy Paye.

DeForest Buckner vs. Michael Onwenu: Buckner’s length could be an issue for Onwenu. He will have to be fundamentally sound and play with good technique in order to hold up against one of the best three technique defensive tackles in the league.
