Top 5 match-ups in the Patriots, Jaguars game

The Patriots kickoff Week 7 of the the NFL season in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Both teams are struggling and need a win in the worst way.

The game will be close and it will come down to individual match-ups as it always does.

Here are five match-ups to watch.

Christian Gonzalez vs. Brian Thomas: The Patriots will have to match up Gonzalez on Thomas. The rookie out of LSU has been terrific thus far and appears to be the next great Tigers receiver. He will give Gonzalez a workout vertically. Gonzo will be up to the challenge but he will be tested today.

Patriots offensive line vs. Jacksonville defensive line: This game could be won in the trenches. The Patriots offensive line will have their hands full with a talented Jacksonville front four that features Josh Hines- Allen, Travon Walker and Arik Armstead. Pass protection will be key today for the Patriots. They must do a better job of protecting Drake Maye than they did last week.

Jonathan Jones vs. Gabe Davis: Old friend Gabe Davis has not done much for the Jaguars struggling offense. He will needs to get going today but he will have to do it against a familiar face in Jonathan Jones. Jones and Davis have matched up plenty in the past from Davis’s time in Buffalo. They have plenty of one on one time today as the Patriots will probably play a good amount of man coverage in this game.

Drake Maye vs. Jaguars secondary: Maye faces off against the worst secondary in the NFL. Jacksonville is giving up 276.7 yards per game through the air. They have given up 14 passing touchdowns thus far this season. Fellow rookie quarterback Caleb Williams torched them last week for over 300 yards and four touchdown passes. Look for Maye to have a big day.

Jerod Mayo vs. Doug Pederson: Both coaches are desperate for a win, especially Pederson who is firmly on the hot seat in Jacksonville. Make the right decisions in key moments in the game will be key for both teams if they want to pick up their second win today.
