The Pirates lost a back and forth affair to the Quad City Steamwheelers last night, 37-33 at the Tsongas Center.
Pirates quarterback Kenji Bahar scored three touchdowns and threw his first touchdown pass of the season, but the Pirates could not hold off the Steamwheelers who rallied from behind to pick up the win.
Bahar was the team’s leading rusher with 43 yards on 12 attempts and two rushing touchdowns. He completed 13 of 29 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown.
Thomas Owens led the receivers with five catches for 29 yards. Teo Redding caught 4 passes for 27 yards and a touchdown.
The Pirates defense played well early and forced two turnovers but they could not hold the lead late something that was a problem for this team at times last season.
Friday night’s loss marks only the second time in team history that the Pirates have started a season at 0-2.
The Pirates will now have a bye week before returning to the Tsongas Center on April 12 to take on the Fishers Freight at 7:05 pm
