It was a tough day yesterday at One Bills Place yesterday. First, the Bills learned that wide receiver Sammy Watkins suffered a fractured foot at mini camp and that he would be out until training camp. The news got worse later in the day when the team learned that first round pick Shaq Lawson will miss five to six months after having shoulder surgery. The Bills have had a relatively quiet off-season thus far however that all changed yesterday.
As far as how these injuries will impact the team, Watkins should be ready for camp so his loss is short term. Lawson’s loss is huge. He was expected to start as the five technique defensive tackle and play some outside linebacker as well. The Bills pass rush was limited to begin with, now its practically non existent. Lawson will probably start the season on the PUP list.
The Bills were the one team in the AFC East that I felt had done enough this off season to bridge the gap between themselves and the Patriots. The loss of Lawson however sets them back. Their pass rush was anemic to begin with. Now its down right awful!
