Storyline: The 6-6 Eagles will battle the Maryland Terapins in the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit this afternoon. B.C won their last two games to qualify for this bowl game.
Here are three keys for the Eagles in this game.
1. Patrick Towles Must Play Well: Sounds simple but Towles needs to play well today if the Eagles are going to have any chance of winning this game.
Towles needs to be efficient in the passing game and he can’t force balls into coverage. He must take what Maryland gives him.
The Boston College offense goes as Towles goes.
2. Ground and Pound: Look for B.C to give Maryland a heavy dose of Jon Hilliman in this game. Maryland is undesized defensively. The Eagles have to pound the ball effectively in order to set up their play action passing game.
3. Get Consistent Pressure: The Eagles 8th ranked defense must get consistent pressure on Maryland quarterback Perry Hills. The senior quarterback is elusive and he can make plays outside of the pocket. Boston College needs to contain Hills and keep him the pocket. Hills is not a pure pocket passer.
Prediction: B.C 31 Maryland 28: I think the offense will come to life today against a Maryland defense that undersized and undermanned.
The Eagles will run the football and make enough big plays to pull out what should be a good game. Expect a shootout in the Motor City.
