It was a season to forget for the Patriots after finishing 4-13 for the second straight season. Owner Robert Kraft moved on from Jerod Mayo after the season as a result.
The development of rookie quarterback Drake Maye was the focal point of the season but two of the few bright spots for the Patriots r this season were safety and special teams ace Brenden Schooler and cornerback Christian Gonzalez. Both were recognized for their efforts on Friday by being named AP All-Pro’s.
Schooler was a first team All-Pro while Gonzalez finished second team All-Pro.
Schooler, 27, received a total of 60 votes. The Pro Bowler and back-to-back NFLPA All-Pro led the Patriots special teams with 86.5 percent of the snaps played. He finished with nine tackles, which led the special teams for the third straight year.
Gonzalez, 22, received 32 votes. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound corner out of Oregon finished his sophomore season as the team leader in defensive snaps with 978 snaps. Gonzalez missed the season finale due to a concussion. He started 16 games, totaling 59 tackles, 11 passes defended as well as two interceptions.
In a difficult season, both Schooler and Gonzalez were a consistent presence and their coaches and teammates could count on them on a weekly basis. Both are an integral part of the Patriots core moving forward.
