Rams add two more transfers in Cooper and Helm

The Rhode Island Rams added two more transfers on Friday to bring their total to 10 transfers this off-season.

Jordan Cooper, a guard transfer from Northwestern State played in 16 games for the program including 6 games this season. Offensive line coach Eddy Morrisey is looking forward to adding Cooper to the offensive line room.

“Jordan is a big, strong, athletic player that will help us continue the tradition of outstanding offensive linemen that play for the University of Rhode Island. He plays hard and will compete for a spot immediately. I’m excited about the toughness, physicality and high character that he will add to our program.”

Cooper has two years of eligibility.

Perhaps the biggest addition is former Clemson quarterback Hunter Helms. The 6-2 215 pounder from West Columbia South Carolina has played in nine games for the Tigers, completing 23-of-37 passes for 218 yards in addition to rushing four times for 13 yards. He is a former walk-on.

Offensive coordinator Patrick Murphy is looking forward to working with the dual threat quarterback.

“Hunter is a dual-threat quarterback with experience at the highest level in a nationally-prominent FBS program. He brings great size and has a big, extremely accurate arm. His game is also bolstered by his high football IQ and he will offer elite leadership skills to our locker room.”

Like Cooper, Helms also has two years of eligibility.

With a large group of seniors and players opting for the NFL Draft, the Rams have gone heavy into the portal thus far this off-season as they look to fill some key spots. So far they have done that.
