We had an opportunity to chat with former Catholic Memorial standout and Villanova Wildcat Devon Marshall about entering the transfer portal.
Marshall has two years of eligibility left after playing in nine games in 2022 and 11 games in 2023. He finished last season with 34 solo tackles and 13 assisted tackles.
Marshall helped lead Catholic Memorial to the Division 2 State Championship in 2021 and was named Catholic Conference Player of the Year.
Here is what Devon had to say about entering the portal and what he is looking for in his next school.
NEFJ: What made you decide to enter the portal and how has the process gone so far?
DM: “I wanted to play Power 5 ball and give myself the opportunity to play against the best competition and excel at it to my make myself a better player.”
NEFJ: While you wait for offers to come in, what are you working on in terms of your game?
DM: “I have just been on visits and have virtual visits to more p5 schools.”
NEFJ: What are you looking for in your next school?
DM: “Winning culture, good defensive scheme and coaches, the availability for me to complete and play at the starting spot.”
NEFJ: How would you describe your game? What are your strengths?
DM: “I am a physical corner who likes to cover guys every play and I am able to tackle and make big hits when the opportunity presents itself.”
Marshall certainly has the physical tools to play at the Power 5 level. He has had plenty of offers come in thus far and should be making a decision soon.
