William “Pop” Watson III is heading back to where his football journey began. After three seasons in Blacksburg with Virginia Tech, the dual-threat quarterback officially committed to the University of Massachusetts on Sunday night. The move marks a significant homecoming for the Springfield native, who starred at Springfield Central High School under his father, longtime coach Bill Watson, before heading south to the ACC.
In a recent article in The Athletic, we got a first hand look at what it costs to do business in the transfer portal these days. The numbers are staggering and reinforce the belief that college football is a business. It always has been, but even more so now.
The transfer portal is officially open, and for UMass Football, this 15-day window is the most critical period of the offseason. Coming off a winless 2025 season and preparing for a full return to the Mid-American Conference (MAC), Head Coach Joe Harasymiak and his staff are tasked with a total roster overhaul.
As the transfer window opens, UConn Football finds itself at a crossroads. Following the departure of Jim Mora to Colorado State in November, the program has pivoted to new head coach in Jason Candle.
