The Patriots reached an agreement with former Miami Dolphins tight end Julian Hill on a three-year contract on Wednesday. Hill, an undrafted free agent out of Campbell University in 2023, joins the Patriots after three seasons as a divisional rival.
Hill’s arrival comes on the heels of the new league year opening and serves as a direct response to the departure of veteran tight end Austin Hooper, who recently signed with the Atlanta Falcons.
While Hill’s career stats of 33 receptions for 288 yards might not jump off the page, the 25-year-old has built a reputation as a sturdy, reliable inline blocker. In 2025, Hill played over 50% of the offensive snaps for Miami and posted a career-best pass-blocking grade, showcasing the kind of toughness that the Patriots have historically valued at the position. Standing at 6-foot-4 and 251 pounds, he brings a physical presence to the team’s 12 personnel package.
Hill became an unrestricted free agent after he and the Dolphins failed to come to terms on a restricted free agent tender. The offer came in below the $3.5 million tender threshold, which Hill ultimately declined in favor of the security and opportunity provided by New England’s three-year offer.
By signing Hill to a multi-year deal, the Patriots have stabilized the depth chart behind team captain Hunter Henry, ensuring they have a developmental piece with significant starting experience—Hill started 26 games and should fit right into the Patriots scheme.
