Game Rewind: The Patriots defense was once again the story in the team’s 17-10 win over the Eagles. Philadelphia jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first half but the defense adjusted and shut down Carson Wentz and company the rest of the way.
Here are five thoughts on the game.
1. Defense does it’s part: As I mentioned, the defense once again carried the Patriots to victory. After the Eagles jumped out to a 10-0 lead, the defensive coaching staff adjusted, brought more pressure on Carson Wentz and shut out Philadelphia the rest of the way. It was really that simple. It helped that the Eagles have no threat at receiver.
2. Offense was awful: The offense was once again awful. It was a combination of inconsistent play by Tom Brady, poor pass protection and questionable play calling at times. When the highlight play of the game is a gadget play, you know it was a tough day at the office.
3. Brady was bad: I know he is immune from criticism around here but Tom Brady was bad. Brady was skittish in the pocket and routinely overthrew receivers as a result. The supporting cast isn’t what he is accustomed to but he needs to be better and so does the rest of the offense.
4. Big road win: Despite the Eagles being depleted on offense, this was a big road win. Philadelphia is a tough place to play. Bouncing back after a bad loss and a bye week was imperative. The Patriots did that by grinding out a road win.
5. Patriots get nicked up: As usual, no NFL game would be complete without players getting banged up. The Patriots didn’t suffer any major injuries but plenty of players got nicked up and were limping around. It is that time of year.
