Patriots Rewind: 7 Points on the Patriots 22-17 win over the Jets

The Patriots got back on track thanks to a 22-17 win over the New York Jets in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Patriots have now beaten the Jets 13 straight times. With the win, Bill Belichick surpasses George Halas for second place on the all time wins list with 325.

Here are seven points on today’s win.

1. Belichick passes Halas: Win today’s win, Belichick now has 325 wins as a head coach, surpassing George Halas on the all time wins list. It is only fitting that his 325th win comes against a team both Belichick and Patriot fans alike hate, the Jets.

2. Mac is back: Mac Jones started and played the entire game. It was an up and down performance for Jones. He did some good things but also made several poor decisions including throwing a pick six that was later overturned by a roughing the passer call. Jones played well enough to win but left a lot to be desired.

3. Offensive line woes continue: The offensive line really struggled today, surrendering six sacks to the Jets defensive line. We knew this was a tough match up for them but we didn’t think they would be as bad as they were. Rookie Cole Strange struggled in particular and even sat for a period of time. He needs to be better and this group needs to be better.

4. Defense dominates: The Patriots defense once again made life tough on Jets quarterback Zach Wilson, sacking him twice and intercepting him three times. Wilson has now thrown seven interceptions in three games against the Patriots. It’s really two however because he got hurt in the second meeting last season and didn’t play most of the game. The Patriots are living rent free in his head.

5. Dre the lead back: Rhamondre Stevenson has taken over as the lead running back and has become the Patriots most important offensive player. Stevenson had 143 yards of total offense today. Stevenson has really developed as a pass blocker and receiver the past two years. He is now a complete back.

6. McCourty’s still got it: Devin McCourty added two more interceptions to his career total. He now has 31 career interceptions. Now I know people will say that Wilson threw the two interceptionsright to him but that doesn’t matter. McCourty is still playing at a high level and is a stabilizing presence in the Patriots secondary. His leadership is invaluable.

7. Same Ol Jets: Same Ol Jets. I don’t want to hear about Robert Saleh and their turnaround. They are fraudulent. Today’s version of the Jets is who they are. Not the overachievers we’ve seen the past three weeks. They can’t beat the Patriots. It’s a mental thing.
