Game Rewind: The Patriots outlasted the Chiefs 43-40 to win a shootout on Sunday night. It was a back and forth affair that featured a combined 959 yards of total offense. If this was a preview of the AFC Championship game, we are in store for one hell of a game.
Here are five thoughts on the win.
1. The Chiefs Are As Good As Advertised: The Kansas City Chiefs are as good as advertised. They have weapons all over the place offensively and they can pass and run the ball effectively. Patrick Mahomes is playing at an elite level and orchestrating an offense that is reminiscent of the 1999 St. Louis Rams. The Chiefs are a legit Super Bowl contender.
2. Sony Michel Was the Difference: Sony Michel was the difference in this game. The Patriots ability to run the football and control the clock is why they won this game. Michel gives the Patriots some much needed balance, something they have been lacked in recent years.
3. Brady Matches Mahomes: Of course he did! When the stakes are high, the GOAT rises to the occasion. Brady completed 24 of 35 passes for 340 yards and a touchdown. Those are not earth shattering numbers by Brady’s standards but they good enough for the Patriots to win.
4. Too Many Big Plays: The defense gave up too many big plays, especially in the second half. They had no answer for Tyreek Hill. Who does? That being said, if these two teams meet again, the Patriots have to limit the big plays or they will lose.
5. Big Win Long Term: The Patriots needed this one if they are to secure a top two seed in the AFC. The one seed would have been off the table had they lost. Now, the Patriots still have a shot at either the one or the two seed.
