Game Recap: Tom Brady sparkled in the Patriots 41-25 win on Sunday. Brady completed 22/33 315 yards and 4 touchdown passes in the win. Here are five quick thoughts on the Patriots win.
1. Pats Get Revenge: I think a lot was made of the Patriots gaining revenge after their 16-0 loss to the Bills earlier this season but the Patriots did indeed get revenge. I highly doubt Bill Belichick and his staff were calling this a revenge game but if that was their M.O, they achieved their goal.
2. Brady Was Brilliant: Brady was brilliant in this game and he is making a case for the regular season MVP award. Don’t tell me he should be disqualified because he served a four game suspension. He is playing out of his mind right now. Sunday’s performance was his best since returning from the suspension.
3. The Offense Was Balanced: The Patriots ran the ball 23 times for 72 yards. Those are not great numbers by any means but offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels made a concerted effort to pound the ball and that’s what’s important. More balance helps Tom Brady.
4. The Defense Was Once Again Inconsistent: The Patriots were once again inconsistent defensively. They struggled to get off the field in key situations and they allowed Buffalo to rush for 167 yards on 23 carries. That’s not good. If the Patriots want to stay in the hunt long term, they must start playing better defense. Maybe trading Jaime Collins will provide a spark. Time will tell.
5. Gronk Was a Man Among Boys: Rob Gronkowski has been an animal since Tom Brady’s return. Gronkowski caught 5 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown in the win.
Gronk broke Stanley Morgan’s record for most touchdown catches in team history with 69. Gronkowski is back to being an elite tight end again and that’s bad for the rest of the league.
