Game Rewind: After getting off to a slow start, the Patriots scored 21 second quarter points and cruised to a 35-14 win over the Tennessee Titans. The Patriots will be playing in their NFL record seventh straight AFC Championship game next Sunday.
Here are five thoughts from the game.
1. Sluggish Beginning: The Patriots got off to an uncharacteristically slow start. They won the toss and took the ball only to stall and punt it away. They then proceeded to give up a 95 yard drive which enabled the Titans to take an early 7-0.
The Patriots finally got on track to start the second quarter but it was frustrating to watch them play down to the Titans for a quarter.
2. Brady Bounces Back: The GOAT has struggled down the stretch but he got back on track in this game. Brady completed 35 of 53 passes for 337 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Patriots took the ball out of Brady’s hands early by running it but they figured out pretty quickly that it is Brady that stirs the drink and they started throwing the ball more in the second quarter.
3. The D Registers 8 Sacks: The Patriots front seven did a terrific job of containing Marcus Mariota. Not only that, but they got good pressure on him as well, sacking him eight times. The Patriots defense has been terrific for the past two months and they continued their stellar play in this game.
4. Diminutive Dion At It Again: Dion Lewis was once again impressive. Lewis carried the ball 15 times for 62 yards and caught 9 passes for 79 yards. He continues to be a catalyst for the Patriots offensively and has become a reliable piece for Josh McDaniels in his game planning.
5. The Patriots Look Dominate Again: The Patriots dismantling of the Titans sent a clear statement to the rest of the league. They are still the best team in the league and talk of their demise was greatly exaggerated. New England once again has that look to them. The look of a championship team.
