Game Rewind: The Patriots got off to a fast start and never looked back as they demolished the Dolphins 35-17. At 9-2, they are currently tied for the best record in the AFC and are the two seed in the conference.
Here are five thoughts on the game.
1. The Injury Bug Bites Hard: The Patriots lost five players in yesterday’s game to injury. Linebackers Trevor Reilly and Kyle Van Noy, safety Nate Ebner, offensive tackle LaAdrian Waddle and defensive end Trey Flowers all exited the game with various injuries. It was a rough day for a team that doesn’t have a lot of depth to begin with, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
2. Gronk Goes Off: Lets face it, Gronkowski has had some dud performances this season, so it was nice to see him catch 5 passes for 82 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Patriots need him to be a factor down the stretch and he reminded us yesterday how much of a weapon he can still be for the Patriots.
3. Lewis is the Featured Attraction: Dion Lewis once again led the team in rushing carrying the ball 15 times for 112 yards. Lewis has entrenched himself as the starting running back and along with Rex Burkhead, is forming a formidable one, two punch.
4. Lines of Communication: The offensive line had all kinds of problems yesterday. Between Ted Karras’ bad snap and protection issues, the offensive line had a bad day at the office. Line coach Dante Scarnecchia will have plenty to correct this week in film sessions.
5. Bank on Burkhead: Rex Burkhead scored a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown in the Patriots win. After getting off to a slow start this season and missing time with injuries, Burkhead has established himself as Dion Lewis’ running mate. The two have formed a potent one, two punch for the Patriots moving forward.
