Patriots Pulse Preview: New England Patriots (7-2) at Oakland Raiders (4-5)

The Patriots will battle the Raiders in Mexico City in a game that has playoff implications for both teams.

The Patriots need to win in order to keep pace with the Steelers in the race for the number one seed in the AFC. For the Raiders, they need to win to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Here are five keys for the Patriots in this game.

1. Handle the Altitude: The Altitude wasn’t an issue last week in Denver when the Patriots demolished the Broncos. It could be an issue today however because Mexico City is at a higher altitude than Denver. Rotating the offensive and defensive line man will be key for the Patriots in this game.

2. Take Shots Vertically: The Raiders secondary is young and generous when it comes to giving up big plays down the field. The Patriots have to come out early and take a shot or two vertically early on. Scoring early will be key for the Patriots.

3. Patchwork Offensive Line Must Play Well: With David Andrews and Marcus Cannon out, the Patriots patchwork offensive must play well and hold up against a Raiders front seven that is active and athletic.

4. Front Seven Must Play Well: The Raiders sport one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. Paired with Marshawn Lynch, Oakland has the potential to pound the ball. The Patriots need to gap control the Raiders up front and keep Lynch from getting down hill and gaining chunk yards.

5. Go No Huddle: Use the altitude to your advantage. Oakland’s secondary is suspect. Take advantage of them by putting pressure on them. No huddle is a great way to do it.

Final Thoughts: This is a winnable game for the Patriots. Forget about Mexico City and the pomp and circumstance of this game. Just go win it!
