Patriots Pulse Blog: Thoughts on the 2016 Patriots Draft.

1. I like the Cyrus Jones pick. He can play in the slot and outside. With Logan Ryan and Malcolm Butler free agents next off-season, Jones could find himself a starter in 2017.

2. Joe Thuney is a Dante Scarnecchia pick. He’s tough, athletic, smart, technically sound and ideally suited to play in a zone blocking scheme. Thuney could beat out Tre Jackson or Shaq Mason in camp for a starting guard spot.

3. Jacoby Brissett has the physical tools to be the heir apparent to Tom Brady. He’s a developmental prospect but he’s also insurance in the event that Brady ends up serving his four game suspension.

4. At 6-4 330, Vinny Valentine is yet another big body for Bill Belichick to use at the defensive tackle position. Valentine will rotate with Malcolm Brown, Alan Branch and Terrance Knighton to give the Patriots a formidable defensive tackle rotation.

5. I think Malcolm Mitchell could be a steal if he stays healthy. He gives the Patriots some much needed size at receiver and he’s a vertical threat. His knees need to hold up for him to be effective.

6. Kamu Grugier Hill is a hybrid. He can play safety in base defenses and he can play the nickel linebacker in sub-packages. Hill will also play a big part on special teams. A classic Patriots pick.

7. Elandon Roberts is another hybrid safety/linebacker who could play in sub packages as an edge rusher and he can also play special teams.

8. I think Ted Karras will have a hard time making the team. He’s a strong run blocker but he struggles in pass pro and lacks the athleticism to play in the Patriots offense.

9 . Devin Lucien could be another seventh round steal for Belichick. Lucien is a big play threat who can rack up the YAC.
