Tom Brady was once again chosen as the top player in the NFL by his peers last night. It is the second time Brady has been voted as the top player in the NFL. He also received the honor in 2011.
At 39, Brady is still playing at an elite level and his performance in the second half of Super Bowl LI reinforces that notion. His peers took notice as he systematically picked the Falcons apart and helped enigineer the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history.
Of course, Brady’s performance in the Super Bowl wasn’t the only reason he was voted the top player in the league. Brady put up fantastic numbers after returning from his four game suspension and he led the Patriots to an 11-1 record and a Super Bowl win. Those are the numbers that got the players attention and that is why he is the best in the game right now.
I am not a fan of the NFL’s Top 100 list because I feel that it is a popularity contest amongst the players. In some cases, they are voting for their buddies and voting more on reputation than production.
I do have to give the players credit. They got it right with Brady. He is the best player in the game right now. There is a good chance he might be at the top of this list again next year. In fact, he will be.
