Patriots Pulse Blog: Blount Force Trauma Is Back in New England.

Divisional Playoffs - Indianapolis Colts v New England Patriots
“Blount” force trauma is back!

The Patriots have re-signed running back LeGarrette Blount to a one year deal. Bill Belichick played his cards right with Blount. He didn’t rush to re-sign him. Instead, he gauged the running back market and other teams interest in Blount. Once he saw that Blount was struggling to find work, he re-signed him.

Blount rushed for 703 yards and six touchdowns on 165 carries last season. He is an ideal complement to Dion Lewis and the other backs on the roster. Blount will compete with veteran Donald Brown for carries but he has the benefit of knowing the system and is the only true power back on the Patriots roster.

The Patriots may still draft a running back in the upcoming draft. After all, the running back position in this year’s draft is deep and there are some quality running backs who could offer some late round value. If Belichick chooses not to draft a running back, the Patriots could still be in good shape. With LeGarrette Blount, Dion Lewis, Donald Brown, James White, Brandon Bolden and Joey Iosefa, they have plenty of depth at the position.
