The Patriots proved on Sunday night that they are playoff ready after their 28-24 win over the Baltimore Ravens.
In a game that felt like a playoff game, Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and the rest of the team stepped up when it mattered most and came from behind to earn the team’s biggest win in this magical turnaround season.
Some wondered openly if this team has what it takes at this stage of their development to make a playoff run. I think they answered that question without any doubt. The defense has to play better and Maye has to limit the turnovers, but these Patriots are good enough to contend for a Super Bowl after winning a game like they just did.
“I felt like it was a big team win, it was a huge team win,” said Mike Vrabel. “We lost a lot of guys. A lot of guys went down. A lot of guys stepped up. We’re going to have to get healthy, but I thought this was a great win for us.”
A lot of guys did get injured and that’s usually a recipe for disaster but the rest of the starters and some of the back ups stepped up and overcame an 11 point deficit in the fourth quarter to get it done. It was a signature moment in a season full of signature moments.
Despite winning and clinching a playoff spot, Vrabel says the Patriots still have another goal that they need to check off.
“We’re going to try to win the division,” Vrabel said. “We’re going to focus on that. We’ll just take it one day at a time. Whatever happens, we’ll figure out what’s the best thing for the team…it’s all a credit to the players. So, when we win, it’s because of them.”
Maye echoed Vrabel’s sentiment.
“That was one of the goals,” added Maye on the postseason berth. “You try to win the division and that’s still kind of what we’re fighting for. It’s awesome to clinch the playoffs, but we want to win the division.”
After Sunday Night’s win, the Patriots proved they are good enough to accomplish all of their goals for this season, including win in the playoffs.
