Patriots name captains for 2023 season

We’ve got one first timer and some repeat guys for the 2023 season when it comes to the Pats’ team captains.

Hunter Henry is a captain for the first time in his NFL career, while Mac Jones, David Andrews, Matthew Slater, Deatrich Wise Jr. and Ja’Whaun Bentley will have the honor again.

Everyone but Henry was a captain last year, with Bentley being a first-timer in 2022. For Andrews and Slater, it’s an honor they’ve had plenty of times throughout their lengthy Patriots careers. Jones has looked and sounded like a much more comfortable player throughout the summer and his teammates have all consistently talked about how much of a leader he is. Now, he’ll have another opportunity to prove it with a “C” on game days.

In Henry’s case, you won’t find a nicer guy. Always smiling, always willing to talk and most importantly, always extremely supportive of his teammates. It’s a little surprising he wasn’t able to earn a captaincy with the Chargers, but he’s now earned it in year two with the Patriots.

It’s a great group of guys that absolutely scream “leaders” whether on the field or off. Each of them are deserving of the opportunity to lead this team back to a championship level.
