The Jets have a new head coach. What else is new? Every three years the Jets seem to start over again. The only difference now is, they hope that finally found the right coach in Robert Saleh and they hope they found their franchise quarterback in Zach Wilson.
So, what do we need to know about these Jets? Here’s a look at the Jets and what you need to know about them.
Head Coach: Robert Saleh
Offensive Coordinator: Mike LaFleur
Defensive Coordinator: Jeff Ulbrich
Special Teams: Brant Boyer
Offense
- West Coast offense predicated on timing routes and moving the pocket for the quarterback.
-
The Patriots will see a lot of motioning and shifting today.
-
The Jets will take shots in the passing game, especially off of play-action.
-LaFleur will use all his pieces especially wide receiver Corey Davis. He will feature Davis but several other players will get touches.
- Lots of misdirection. Both in regular offense and on special plays or gadgets.
Defense
- Heavy dependence on base pass rush.
-
The Jets will rotate a lot of guys along the defensive line.
-
Blitz situations. Expect five and six man pressure on 2nd and long and 3rd and long.
-
Eight man fronts to 21 personnel. The Jets will play a lot of man free (Cover 1) and some Cover 3.
-
They match ups in the secondary. Saleh likes to play teams straight up. Corners are strong and weak, safeties match up to detached tight ends. Linebackers on running backs.
