Patriots Draft: Player Profile: Brendan Jaimes, OT, Nebraska

Versatility as you know is a hallmark of the Patriot Way. The Patriots look for versatility at every position when evaluating players. Versatility is extremely important along the offensive line. You need offensive lineman who can play multiple positions and do it in a pinch. Brenden Jaimes is that type of player. A three year starter at Nebraska, Jaimes started at both guard and tackle. He has the college career profile as Joe Thuney did at N.C State when the Patriots drafted him in 2016. Jaimes is also the same size. Here is my scouting report on Brenden Jaimes Scouting Report Brenden Jaimes, OT, 6-5 1/2 300, Nebraska Initial Quicks: Jaimes gets off the ball quickly and fits into blocks. Resets the line of scrimmage and gets good movement on single blocks and double teams. Run Block: Physical run blocker who is fundamentally sound. Gets inside hand position and gets movement on drive blocks. Moves well laterally and can bucket step and seal on reach blocks. Jaimes is not a natural knee bender. Blocks high because he bends at the waist. Pass Block: Solid short area pass blocker. Sets quick and can punch and recoil with consistency in the phone booth. Has good feet and can set an edge on his kick slide and cut off speed rushers. Sets a little high so he has had problems with bull rushers in the past. Pull & Trap: Needs to play lower when when pulling or releasing to block at the second level. Tends to be too high and ends falling forward when he fits into the block. Use Of Hands: Heavy handed. Gets inside hand position and can control defenders. Shocks them on contact and gets movement. If he bent better, he could out leverage defensive lineman more. Strength: Strong upper body. Gets good movement at the point of attack but he could even better in this area if he played with a lower pad level more consistently. Explosion: Explosive for his size. Wins at the line of scrimmage with get off but often gets stalemated because he blocks on an upward trajectory and not square and vertical. Jaimes size, athleticism and versatility make an appealing mid to late round option for the Patriots. He reminds of Joe Thuney but he is not as fundamentally sound as Thuney was coming out of N.C State.
