FOXBOROUGH- The New England Patriots have finalized a trade sending wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans. In exchange, the Patriots acquire second-year safety Jaylen Reed alongside a 2028 seventh-round draft pick originally belonging to the New Orleans Saints. 

For Houston, the transaction fills a crucial positional vacuum created during joint practices, when projected starter Jayden Higgins suffered a season-ending torn ACL.

Boutte arrives in Houston coming off a productive 2025 campaign where he tallied 33 receptions, 551 yards, and six touchdowns, showcasing the dynamic playmaking ability that made him a standout draft prospect out of LSU. In Houston’s offensive system, Boutte provides valuable perimeter versatility and immediate starting capability opposite Nico Collins and Tank Dell. 

For New England, the trade resolves a lingering logjam within a revamped wide receiver room. After acquiring A.J. Brown and signing Romeo Doubs in the offseason to pair with DeMario Douglas and Kyle Williams, targets were set to be scarce for Boutte, who had previously requested a trade to secure a larger role. 

By dealing from a position of depth, New England adds Jaylen Reed, a physical young defender drafted in the sixth round out of Penn State in 2025. Reed logged 14 tackles across seven appearances in his rookie year and offers immediate depth and special teams value in Foxborough, while the future draft capital adds long-term operational flexibility.

Boutte was on the trading block for months with no takers. Ultimately, this was the best offer the Patriots were going to get for him. Adding depth in Reed and a late round pick down the road was about as good as they were going to do at this point.
