Patriots and Titans both want Hopkins but he is holding out for a better offer

Both the Patriots and the Tennessee Titans are interested in signing DeAndre Hopkins but according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss and ProFootballTalk.com, the veteran receiver is waiting for more teams to join the pursuit of his services so it can drive up his value.

Acvording to the report, Hopkins could opt to wait things out until other teams emerge for his services. It is well documented that Hopkins is not a fan of practicing and he wouldn’t mind missing camp in order for another team to emerge for his services.

Unfortunately for Hopkins, that other team has not emerged yet. There was speculation early on after his release from the Cardinals that the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs might be interested but neither team has shown much interest in Hopkins. The Chiefs would probably be interested but their cap situation makes it difficult to sign Hopkins.

The Patriots brought Hopkins in for a visit last month. He was in town for two days and at that time, it appeared like the two sides could get a deal done but Hopkins ultimately left town without a deal.

Hopkins could certainly help any team he signs with ultimately but he is not the same player he was three years ago. He is not a number one receiver and when you look at the Patriots skill group, it is hard to see him fitting in. The Patriots have a lot of depth at receiver and tight end. They have too many mouthes to feed as it is.

It appears the Hopkins saga will drag on and the longer it does, the less likely it is that he signs with the Patriots. With camp opening in two weeks, I would not bet on it at this point.
