Wolf says Patriots ‘absolutely’ willing to make big deals

FOXBOROUGH, MA – The New England Patriots are “absolutely” interested in making a significant trade to improve their roster, according to executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Wolf stated that the team is in contact with all 31 other NFL teams and is willing to part with high-value draft capital, including a first- or second-round pick, for the right player.

“We’re talking to all 31 other teams and trying to do what’s best for us,” Wolf said. “If there’s something we think can help us, we’ll definitely be open to it.”

This aggressive stance marks a shift in philosophy for a franchise that has traditionally built through the draft. For a team coming off two four-win seasons, the willingness to trade a top pick demonstrates a desire to accelerate the rebuilding process and add immediate talent to the roster.

Wolf explained that the team would be willing to surrender a premium pick “if there’s a player out there that we feel like can help us, and it costs that, then we would consider doing that.”

The Patriots are currently in a strong position to make a move, with a significant amount of salary cap space and a full slate of draft picks. While the team has already made some notable additions this offseason, including acquiring wide receiver Stefon Diggs in free agency, Wolf’s comments suggest that they are not done looking to upgrade.

The comments come at a time when several high-profile players across the league are in contract disputes or have been the subject of trade rumors. While Wolf did not name any specific targets, speculation has been swirling around players like Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson and Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin.

Wolf also addressed the Patriots’ own players, including veteran safety Kyle Dugger, who has been working with the second-team defense during recent practices. While Wolf’s focus on trades seems to be on acquiring talent, it’s also possible that the team could look to trade away a player if the right offer comes along.

Ultimately, Wolf’s message is clear: the Patriots are open for business and are willing to be bold to improve the team. With the regular season just around the corner, it remains to be seen what, if any, moves the team will make, but for the first time in a long time, the Patriots appear to be in a position to be major players on the trade market.
