Week 8 was overshadowed by a flurry of trades that took place on Monday night and Tuesday. Here are my thoughts on the week that was in the NFL.
1. I have a feeling Ezekiel Elliott will play this week despite his suspension being reinstated on Monday night. Somehow, he will get another stay by the end of the week.
2. I cannot say I am surprised the Patriots traded Jimmy Garoppolo. Bill Belichick finally got the return he was looking for. Belichick never wanted to franchise Garoppolo and pay him starter money to ride pine behind Brady. So, he moved him.
3. The Dolphins traded Jay Ajayi because he wasn’t buying into what Adam Gase was selling. It is really that simple. Gase wants to clean house and he started with Ajayi.
4. Speaking of Jay Ajayi, I love the deal for the Eagles. Ajayi is a good compliment to LeGarrette Blount. He gives them a big, physical back who like Blount, can push the pile and finish runs.
5. The Eagles aren’t the only team in the NFC going for it in 2017. The Seahawks acquisition of left tackle Duane Brown is proof that Seattle believes they are a player in the NFC. Especially with Aaron Rodgers hurt. The Packers are no longer a contender in the conference.
6. Is there a bigger disaster in pro sports now than the Browns? First, they lose to the Vikings this week to drop to 0-8. Then, they botched a potential trade with the Bengals for A.J McCarron. It might be time for Browns owner Jimmy Haslem to clean house again.
7. The Bills acquiring Kelvin Benjamin from the Panthers is proof that general manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott believe their team has a shot at making the playoffs. At 5-2, the Bills are in the thick of it in the AFC.
8. Amidst all of the nonsense centering around Martavis Bryant, the Steelers are 6-2 and in the thick of the home field race in the AFC. It’s been a quiet 6-2. Pittsburgh is legit.
9. The Broncos quarterback situation isa mess right now. First year coach Vance Joseph has to consider making a quarterback change. Brock Osweiler can’t be any worse than Trevor Siemien.
10. The Cardinals should shut down David Johnson for the season. What is the point of bribing him back? They are not going to make the playoffs.
