NFL: 3 Reasons Why I’m O.K With Terrell Owens Skipping the Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony

I don’t have a problem with Terrell Owens skipping the Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony in August. I personally wouldn’t miss it but Owens beats to his own drum and he’s well within his rights to skip it. He also reserves the right to change his mind at some point.

Why is it bad that Owens is skipping it? Because other Hall of Famers said so? That’s nonsense! Here are three reasons why I think Owens is skipping the ceremony.

1. His Relationship With the Media: Owens has always maintained a terrible relationship with the media. He doesn’t like dealing with them. Owens knows that if he goes to Canton, he will end up answering questions all week long regarding his career and the antics that defined his relationship with the media. That’s the last thing he wants to do. He doesn’t play anymore so why play nice with them? Owens shouldn’t have to do it.

2. Never Set Roots In One City: Owens played in San Francisco, Philadelphia, Dallas, Buffalo and Cincinnati during his 16 year career. He had some great moments in each of those cities and put up big numbers as well but he never endeared himself to the fans and failed to build a legacy as a result.

The enshrinement ceremony is just as much about the fans as it is about the inductees. I can’t see the fans of any of the cities he played in showing up in droves to celebrate his induction.

3. He’s Introverted: Owens is an introverted person. Despite the trash talking and the antics, he is anti-social and likes to keep to himself. He is the antithesis of Randy Moss. He doesn’t like playing to crowd. Moss is a media darling now. When was the last time you heard from Owens? Probably not since Celebrity Apprentice. He doesn’t like the limelight now that he’s not playing. He’s odd like that.

Other Hall of Famers have implored Owens to go to Canton for the ceremony but Owens remains steadfast against going.

It’s O.K if he doesn’t. He doesn’t have to. It’s his prerogative. Owens beats to his own drum. There is nothing wrong with that.
