The playoffs kick off in New Hampshire this weekend and we have some great first round and potential second round match ups in all four divisions.
Here is our breakdown.
Division 1
Top Seeds: Bedford (1), Manchester Memorial (2), Pinkerton (3)
First Round matchups
Exeter (9) at Winnacunnet (8)
Portsmouth Oyster River (10) at Salem (7)
Nashua North (12) at 5 Bishop Guertin
Concord (11) at Windham (6)
Londonderry (13) at Nashua South (4)
Breakdown: Bedford is the clear favorite in this division. The Bulldogs have been dominant once again this season and unlike seasons past, their offense has been the driving force led by quarterback and Duke Lacrosse commit Bennett Matthews. Manchester Memorial finished 8-1 with their only loss being to Winnacunnet. Jacob Schuff leads the way for a potent Memorial offense. Pinkerton struggled down the stretch, losing three straight but you can’t count out the defending champs. Brian O’Reilly will have the Astros ready.
Nashua South is a team to watch, The Purple Panthers have proven this season that they can play with anyone in the state. Cody Jackson and company will be a tough out. Same goes for Nate Bowen and the Bishop Guertin Cardinals. Bowen leads an offense that can score on anybody. The key for Guertin will be their defense and if they can get stops. Speaking of defense, Windham plays good defense and that could be their calling card. Winnacunnet comes into the playoffs losers of two straight but they’re a dangerous team. Salem is battle tested and has one of the top players in the state in Jordan Zannini.
Division 2
St. Thomas Aquinas (8) at Souhegan (1)
Hanover (7) at Trinity (2)
Kingswood (6) at Plymouth (3)
Manchester West (5) at Pelham (4)
Breakdown: It is hard to pick against Souhegan in Division 2 but the Sabers are the clear front runners led by one of the best players in the state in Ryland Raudelunas. The do it all running back can carry this offense. Trinity poses perhaps the biggest threat to the Sabers. A strong running game is the Pioneers calling card and it could be what drives them to the title game. Plymouth beat Trinity, 44-14 earlier this season. They have the offense to make a run but have a tough match up against a Kingswood team that gave them a run for their money earlier this season. Finally, can’t sleep on Pelham. The Pythons can strike on any given week and make a run. They have been too good in recent years to ignore.
Division 3
Somersworth (8) at Monadnock (1)
Newport (7) at Laconia (2)
Inter-Lakes Moultonborough (6) at Campbell (3)
Epping Newmarket (5) at Gilford (4)
Breakdown: Monadnock has been a wagon all season and outside of their 8-6 win over York (ME) a couple of weeks ago has been dominant all season long. Laconia and Campbell are both good enough to win this division. Campbell has been the dominant program in recent years so you cannot sleep on the Cougars. Epping and Gilford played earlier this season so this round one match up could be a toss up. Gilford won the first meeting, 22–21. Division Three could be more competitive than we think.
Division 4
Farmington (4) at Hillsboro-Deering (1)
Raymond (3) at Mascoma Valley (2)
Breakdown: H-D is the number one seed but Mascoma and Deering come in with a lot more momentum so in anyways, this division is wide open.
