NEFJ picks – Week 6

John and Adam went 9-2 this week to stay deadlocked at 37-18 overall. Stone had a better week (7-4), but is still pretty far behind at 27-28. Here’s our sixth week of picks with five of the best high school and college games as well as our Pats-Vegas predictions…

High School

Billerica at Methuen

Stone: Huge MVC matchup Friday night. Taking Billerica but this one could be one of those instant classics.

Sarianides:  Should be a great match up in the MVC. Billerica will be a player in D3 but I think tonight is about the Eason Brothers and the Rangers big play offense. I am going Methuen here.

Kurkjian: Both teams are on a roll, but Methuen maybe more so. Going with the Rangers here.

King Philip at Foxboro

Stone: Just one of many marquee matchups around the state on Friday night. Going with Foxborough as Coach Martinelli gets win No. 300

Sarianides: I love this rivalry. I have friends on both sides and I have coached in a bunch of these games. I know how intense they are. I also know that they are low scoring games that are decided in the fourth quarter. Give me KP 14-12 in a classic. Game legit could go either way though.

Kurkjian: Both teams are good, but give me KP here.

Bishop Hendricken at LaSalle

Stone: This probably won’t be the only time we see this one over the next few months. Taking Hendricken in a three-point game.

Sarianides: LaSalle is starting to play better but I think Hendricken is the more experienced team and that will prove to be the difference. I have a feeling these two will see each again in five weeks.

Kurkjian: Hendricken has had the better season so far, so give me that team.

Tabor at St. Sebastian’s

Stone: Big early season ISL tilt here. Taking Seb’s, but Tabor has the ability to keep this one close, they’re sneaky underrated this year.

Sarianides: Tabor is legit. They have a big offensive, a big back in Hugo Djeumeni and a big play receiver in Kaden Drinkwater. I think Sebs can hang but the Seawolves pull away in the second half. Tabor by two scores.

Kurkjian: Tabor is ahead of schedule. Going with the Seawolves.

Williston/Northampton at BB&N

Stone: I refuse to pick against the Fighting Mike Willey’s with all of the offensive talent they have. Give me BB&N by 10

Sarianides: This will be a terrific game. I think BB&N is slightly better and I think their skill group proves to be the difference. Give me the Knights in what a close one.

Kurkjian: BB&N wins a big one for the ISL.

College

Albany at UNH

Stone: Must win game for UNH. Wildcats coming off a bye, going with UNH here in another shootout. Probably in the 40’s

Sarianides: The Wildcats bye week came at the right time as they needed to figure some things out. Unfortunately, a good Albany team comes to town. Give me the Great Danes in a shootout win.

Kurkjian: UNH here should be in control throughout.

Robert Morris at Bryant

Stone: First conference game for Bryant coming off a bye against a very beatable RM team. Give me the Bulldogs by at least a TD

Sarianides: Bulldogs coming off a bye so they will be ready. I like Bryant here by two scores. The homecoming crowd should go home happy.

Kurkjian: Bryant is the better team and should prove it.

Richmond at URI

Stone: Every game is a massive game when you’re trying to end a 35-year playoff drought. This one is no different and it’s a game URI really has no business losing at home. Love the Rams this weekend.

Sarianides: Going with the Rams here. Richmond is tough but the Rams offense has been good all season long and the running game is starting to come around.

Kurkjian: Richmond is a quality team, but the Rams are a little more talented.

Princeton at Brown

Stone: Intriguing matchup here. Stout defense – but not as stout in recent years – against arguably the best offense in all of FCS. Give me the Bears by a TD at least.

Sarianides: Brown is up and Princeton is down. I think the Tigers secondary will struggle with Brown’s potent passing game. Give me the Bears by 7 in what should be an interesting match up.

Kurkjian: Give me super quarterback Jake Willcox and the Bears here.

Sacred Heart at Yale

Stone: Coming off a huge win against Dartmouth this is a ‘keep the foot on the gas’ type game for the Bulldogs. I’d be stunned if Yale doesn’t win by at least 10-14 points.

Sarianides: Bulldogs have won two in a row and it will be three in a row after this one. Pios cannot score enough to win a game like this. Yale wins by three scores.

Kurkjian: Yale finds a way to get this one done.

Patriots at Las Vegas

Stone: Zero reason to believe this is going to get better. Maxx Crosby is as disruptive as anyone this team will see on defense this year and the talent on offense for Vegas will give this banged up defense fits. Vegas 27-10.

Sarianides: Tough one here. I am taking some chances this week and it could bury me as I try to leapfrog Kurkjian. Patriots backs are against the wall and I think they respond with a 20-17 win. I hope I don’t regret this pick but I probably will.

Kurkjian: I want to be positive on the Pats. I do. But the Raiders win this.
