FOXBOROUGH – The final day of training camp was also the most competitive and had the biggest crowd as Philadelphia rolled in for a joint practice.
The Eagles fans traveled well, providing a great atmosphere to wrap up the open practice portion of the summer.
As always, here’s everything I saw from the hillside for the two hour session…
-RKK, Robyn Glaser and Deion Branch were all on hand for practice.
-Pats were in blue practice jerseys, Philly in white, not sure how NE got the short end of the stick on that one. /
-Really entertaining 1-v-1 period after stretching. Ja’Lynn Polk continues to impress, burning a defender on a slant early. AJ Brown abused Alex Austin a few times during this time and during team periods, but the Pats D held up pretty well throughout the morning.
-1st 7-on-7 period started around 11:15 with the Pats D and Philly O on the field closest to the fans, Pats O vs. Philly D on the field in front of the media hill…
*Brissett – crossers to Boutte and Hooper (who had a nice day), slant to Douglas, crosser to Osborn, incompletion, hitch (didn’t see to who). At this point I did look over long enough to see Gonzalez with a PBU against DeVonta Smith.
*Maye – hitch to Reagor, dump off to Kevin Harris, hitch to Pop Douglas, absolute dime down the right sideline to Javon Baker (drop in the bucket), missed the next two completions but Maye ended up 6-for-6 during this period.
-Team period up next at 11:24ish…
*Brissett – short runs by Stevenson, sack, throwback after a rollout to Hooper, four straight runs. Looked over to the other field and at this point Matt Judon hd a sick effort play, chasing down Saquon Barkley from behind about 4- yards down field, punching the ball loose from behind before he reached the goal line. AJ Brown also had a sick catch vs. Austin.
*Maye – short pass to Pop, run stuff, screen to Polk, slant to Pop.
*Brissett – slant to Osborn, run stuff, dump off to Gibson, run stuff. Sick scramble from Jalen Hurts on the other field at this point. Onwenu false starts hitch to Austin Hooper.
*Maye – two hand offs. Judon and Hurts share a brief conversation while walking in between the fields before the next period.
-Quick special teams period where Gibson and Reagor were the NE return guys.
-Red zone period up next around 11:50…
*Brissett – hold vs. Hooper, short run Stevenson, quick completion to Stevenson, run for Gibson, Hooper catches a TD seemingly, but had it knocked away and into the air with the play actually turning into an interception for Philly. Looked over just in time to see Hurts lay a dime from about 30 yards into the end zone for Barkley on a wheel against Judon.
*Maye – Run for Stevenson, incomplete fade for Polk, screen incompletion, Harris stuffed on a run, Baker hauls in a ball but he’s out of bounds, run stuff.
*Brissett – (ball placed at the 10)…incomplete to Hooper, Hooper TD on a slant, Stevenson TD run.
-Kickoff work…Raekwon McMilan smokes a Philly returner, ball comes loose, recovery by Hasty for a ‘TD.’ On the very next kick off we got our first scrum on the sideline, Philly bench ran over, big mob scene but nothing really comes of it.
-Back to a team period at 12:09…
*Brissett – Stevenson breaks a run, short completion to Wilcox, great leaping grab by Hooper, sack (Brissett just fell down), incompletion, PBU for Darius Slay against Thornton, over throw of Hooper on a deep post, good run for Stevenson, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. picks off a slant when Osborn stops running his route.
*Maye – hand off, incompletion, Harris stuffed, completion to Boutte, OPI on Baker, incomplete screen.
-Two minute drill team period…
*Brissett – crosser to Hooper, great leaping grab Hooper, crosser to Pop, sack, sick grab on the sideline by Reagor, incompletion, crosser to Pop, incomplete, incomplete, incomplete. Brissett moved the team down to the 8 yard line before the offense struggled to get in.
*Maye – sack, scramble, incompletion, sack. Staff and O-line does him no favors with the 2nd unit, he had zero time to throw the ball.
-Joe Milton and Bailey split some team reps in the final six minutes of the session.
Overall, it felt like a productive day, but it was a tad underwhelming. Tough to know how much the QB’s will each play on Thursday in the preseason game, but given how many reps Brissett had with the top unit during this practice, we should see a healthy amount of Maye when things kick off at 7:00 here at Gillette.
