NCAA Football: Dime Package: Ten Thoughts on Week 7

Dino Babers has Syracuse headed in the right direction.

1.Clemson drops 56 on Boston College the week before but needs overtime to beat N.C State. I want to like the Tigers but their inconsistency drives me nuts!

2. Hat tip to Syracuse coach Dino Babers and his staff for beating Virginia Tech at home. Babers will get the Syracuse program going but it will take time.

3. Has anyone east of the Mississippi River noticed that Washington State has beaten Stanford and UCLA in the past two weeks. The Cougars are flying under the radar nationally.

4. Things have gone from bad to worse at Notre Dame and one has to wonder if Brian Kelly even finishes the season.

5. Purdue fired head coach Darrell Hazell on Sunday. I know some people in the Big Ten might disagree with me, but I think Purdue is a good job.

While the facilities might not be on par with some of the elite schools in the conference, Purdue is a terrific school and the school has established in roads in Texas thanks to former coach Joe Tiller.

If you can recruit kids to Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota (I know they have more tradition), you can recruit kids to Purdue.

6. What has happened to Mississippi State? I knew coming into the season that replacing Dak Prescott was going to be difficult but losing to an average BYU team in Provo has to be deflating.

7. Imagine if Ole Miss played defense? They might still be in the college football playoff conversation because they would probably have another win or two.

8. Can we know put the Tennessee talk to rest please. I told you from jump street that they were overrated and that I didn’t buy them!

9. Lamar Jackson was kept in check by Duke and still amassed over 300 yards of total offense. Stud!

10. Imagine how much better the USC Trojans would be if they started freshmen quarterback Sam Darnold from the beginning of the season. He is much better than Max Browne and it showed in Saturday’s 48-14 win over Arizona.
