NCAA Football: Championship Saturday Preview

It’s Championship Saturday in College Football. By the end of the day, we will have a pretty good idea of which four teams will end up in the college football playoff.

Pac-12 Championship Game

No.8 Colorado Buffaloes vs. #4 Washington Huskies: The Huskies got a dose of reality two weeks ago when they lost to USC but they bounced back in a big way last week by crushing Washington State for the Apple Cup.

Colorado on the other hand is coming off of a huge win against Utah that gave them the Pac-12 South title and a spot in this game.

Both teams run offenses that center around their star quarterbacks. Colorado Sefo Liufau is one of the most underrated dual threat quarterbacks in the country and a big reason for the Buffs success.

Washington’s Jake Browning gets plenty of attention and he is still in the Heisman race.

This game will come down to big plays and turnovers. Which ever offense can hit the most big plays and which ever defense can generate the most turnovers, will win this game.

I like Washington in this game. They are explosive on offense and an opportunistic defense will give the Buffaloes problems.

Prediction: Washington 38 Colorado 28

No. 10 Oklahoma State at No. 9 Oklahoma Sooners: BEDLUM might just be the most underrated rivalry in all of college football. Both teams have an outside shot at making the college football playoff so this game has huge implications as usual.

The quarterback dual between Baker Mayfield and Mason Rudolph will be the most important match up to watch in this game. Mayfield has been lights out this season and I think he should be in the Heisman conversation.

Rudolph hasn’t been as good as Mayfield but the Pokes run the ball well and Rudolph does a good job of stretching the field in the passing game.

Oklahoma State’s defense has to win this game for them. If they can’t stop the Sooners running game or the dynamic duo of Mayfield to Dede Westbrook, it’ll be a long day for the Pokies.

Sadly, I think Oklahoma State is in for a long day. The Sooners will take care of business and make the work of the College Football Playoff committee even harder.

Prediction: Oklahoma 45 Oklahoma State 31

SEC Championship Game

No. 15 Florida Gators vs. No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide: Florida will once again get outclassed by Alabama. The Gators just don’t score enough points to play with Alabama or pull off the upset.

Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts will have a big day and Bama’s defense will have no problem shutting down one of the most inconsistent offenses in the country.

I like Alabama big in this game. The Tide will advance to their third straight College Football Playoff in three years.

Prediction: Alabama 34 Florida 17

Big Ten Championship Game

No. 7 Penn State Nittany Lions vs. No. 6 Wisconsin Badgers: Despite having its fair share of detractors, Penn State is a good football team. This is an opportunity for James Franklin’s team to prove itself on a national stage.

For Wisconsin, the Badgers got to this point the old fashioned way. They run the football and play good defense. It’s a simple formula that has worked for them for years.

I think this will be an old school Big Ten slugfest. It is a tough game to call but I like the Badgers. Wisconsin has been flying under the radar all season but they’ll make a statement with a win in this game.

Prediction: Wisconsin 24 Penn State 17

ACC Championship Game

No. 23 Virginia Tech Hokies vs. No. 3 Clemson Tigers: Clemson has had one hiccup this season and that was a 43-42 loss to Pitt three weeks ago. I don’t see them tripping up in this one however.

Virginia Tech coach Justin Fuentes has done a great job of restoring pride in the Virginia Tech program but the Hokies just don’t have enough talent to keep up with the explosive Tigers in this one.

Clemson belongs in the final four and they will prove it with a resounding win against a quality opponent. Don’t sleep on Deshaun Watson and the Tigers big picture. They are good enough to win a national championship.

Prediction: Clemson 42 Virginia Tech 24
