NCAA Football: Bowl Game Preview and Picks for December 30th

There five games on the docket today but we’ll be previewing the four big ones. Here goes!

Georgia v. TCU -4, in the Liberty Bowl: The Liberty Bowl has traditionally been one of the better games of the bowl season through the years and this game should be no different.

Both teams struggled on offense this season but defensively, they were stout. That is not a surprise considering both programs are led by defensive coaches.

Offense will be at a premium today. In games like this, you pick the team that has the most impact players. That’s Georgia.

I think Bulldogs running back Nick Chubb will do enough on the ground to lead Georgia to a win in what should be a close game. I’m going to take the Horned Frogs as an under dog.

North Carolina +4 v. Stanford, in the Sun Bowl: If Christian McCaffery were to play in this game, then I’d put my money on Stanford. He’s not playing, so I’m putting my money on North Carolina.

Tar Heels quarterback Mitch Trubinsky leads an offense that is explosive and makes big plays. Stanford has struggled with giving up big plays so look for the Heels to make a bunch of them as they beat an undermanned Stanford team. I’m taking the Heels at -4.

Nebraska +7.5 at Tennessee, in the Music City Bowl: You know what, screw it! I’m putting my money on Nebraska in this one. Yeah, I know Tennessee has played much better offensively the second half of the season but I’m betting on the Black Shirts.
Nebraska quarterback Tommie Armstrong is playing in his last game. He doesn’t want to go out a loser. He will play well and the Nebraska offense will make enough big plays to deliver a win for the Cornhuskers.

The over/under is 60 in this one. I think that number will be topped easily. I like the Huskers in a shootout. Put your money on the underdog here. Nebraska wins by a field goal.

Michigan -7 at Florida State and under 55, in the Orange Bowl: I think this will be a back and forth affair. Florida State certainly has the talent offensively to play with Michigan but I think their defense will struggle with Michigan’s offense.
Yeah, I know Michigan quarterback Wilton Speights has been wildly inconsistent down the stretch but so has Florida State quarterback Deondre Francois. Both quarterbacks will have their ups and down in this game but it’s the quarterback that limits the mistakes that will be the one that leads their team to a win.

That’s why I’m putting my money on Michigan. I think the Wolverines defense will get consistent pressure on Francois and they’ll slow down Noles running back Dalvin Cook enough to win this game.

Put your cash on the Wolverines. It’ll be worth it.
