Moses Brown has hired former UMass and Bryant running back Lorenzo Perry as the school’s new head football coach.

Perry has long standing ties to the city of Providence having played his high school ball at LaSalle Academy. He was an all-state performer for the Rams and was the Gatorade Player of the Year his senior season.

Perry then went off to UMass where he played for two years before transferring to Bryant where Perry became one of the best running backs in Division 2 college football. Perry was a two time all-conference performer and a Harlon Hill finalist.

After his playing career ended, Perry entered coaching. He began coaching the Mount Hope Cowboys youth program where he has served as an assistant coach, head coach and vice president of the organization. His teams have won 13 state championships, 6 New England Championships and they have made 6 National Pop Warner playoff appearances.

Perry also owns the GameDay Training facility where he trains athletes year round. In September, he was recognized as the Cox Communications Coach of the Year by Governor Dan McKee.

Perry takes over a Moses Brown program that has been very good in recent years. The Quakers won the Rhode Island Division 3 state title in 2022 and they were a semi-finalist last season.

Moses Brown is a small private school but if you can tap into the youth programs in the city, you can recruit kids to the program. It is an easy sell with the school’s elite education and location. Perry should be able to do that as a prominent figure in the Providence football scene.

The Quakers have to replace several key contributors but they have a good core of young players returning next season.
