It has barely been three months since he retired but former Patriots special teams ace Matthew Slater is working with the team in an advisory role. Slater was present for the start of Monday’s off-season program and he worked with several players including safety Jabrill Peppers.
Peppers did not seem to know what Slater exact role is but he is excited to work with the multi-time pro bowler.
“As long as I get to bounce some knowledge off of him and see him around the locker room, having Slate in the locker room, he uplifted spirits and always knew what to say,” Peppers continued. “So, I’m definitely happy we kept him in the building.”
Slater recently talked about his life after football
“As I transition into this next phase in my life, certainly I love being involved however I can — in a way that makes sense for my family and I,”
Slater was a multi-year captain with the Patriots and one of the unquestioned leaders of the team, especially in recent years. His experience and familiarity with the organization should be an asset, especially to young players. They will benefit the most from his presence.
Slate has been a pleasure to cover through the years. It is great to see him involved with the organization in some capacity.
