Cumberland High School Head Football Coach Josh Lima has stepped down to take a position with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Valley Breeze reached out to Lima for comments on making the big jump to the NFL.

“It’s definitely surreal,” Lima said via text late Thursday night to The Valley Breeze, and admitted that he spent most of that day “running around like crazy, handling many different things” Lima told WPRI in Providence that his hiring is exciting but bittersweet.

“It’s very exciting,” Lima said in a text. “Little bittersweet leaving the program, but definitely excited.”

Lima spent 11 seasons at Cumberland and turned the Clippers into one of the best state school programs in the Ocean State. Lima and new Jaguars coach Liam Coen were teammates at LaSalle Academy. Lima was a finalist for the LaSalle job earlier this off-season but the school ultimately hired former Patriot and two time Super Bowl champion Dan Koppen.

Lima was a technology teacher at the school and a head track coach. He resigned from all positions. Cumberland High School has already posted the position on SchoolSpring. Given the timing, you can expect a hiring soon.
