King Philip’s run this season was one for the ages

King Philip completed a 13-0 season last night after beating Marshfield 42-14 in the Division Two state title game. Not many programs in the history of Massachusetts High Football history can say that had a season like this. It was truly a season for the ages.

Along the way, the Warriors won the Kelley-Rex Division of the Hockomock League for the first time since 2018, got to play at Fenway Park against Thanksgiving rival Franklin, head coach Brian Lee won his 150th game and they capped it all off with a state title at Gillette Stadium. The Warriors scored 441 points on the season and only gave up 66.

How many programs can say they had a season like that? After losing back to back Super Bowls to Catholic Memorial, King Philip roared back to the top of the mountain in Division Two.

The win over Marshfield was the culmination of a season that exceeded expectations. Going into the season, King Philip had some question marks after graduating several key contributors from last season’s team. Head Coach Brian Lee credits the kids and their investment for the success of the program.

“You have to have kids that do all this work, all this investment for a small chance to have the season end tonight like this. It’s just nice to see it come true. I have a lot of help and that’s what you need. If you want to build a program, you invest in assistant coaches and those guys invest in the kids and they buy back into you. Then, those kids bring you on the journey. I get to get another (championship) because those kids trust us enough to do that.”

That invest in the kids and the coaches has paid off for King Philip the last 19 years and the end result is three Super Bowl titles and multiple league titles.
