Hydrate Bill. You need to make another deal today.
It doesn’t happen often but when Billy B goes shopping, its fun. He went on a shopping spree this week acquiring five players in Jonathan Cooper, Chris Long Donald Brown, Martellus Bennett and Shea McClellin that will make a difference next season. I think Patriots fans are shocked/excited by the five acquisitions, especially Bennett who will pair up with Rob Gronkowski to give the Patriots the most lethal tight end combination in the league.
Belichick played the market right if you will. He waited until all of the big name free agents signed and then used two trades and what ever money he could free up to add five players that make the Patriots better. All of them are 30 or younger and with the exception of McClellin, they are all here on one year deals. (Cooper will be a restricted free agent next off season)
Belichick has always been a shrewd wheeler and dealer. He has acquired some great players via trades through the years. However, the Patriots have barely dipped their toes in free agency during that same time period. This shopping spree is a surprise but lets not forget, they don’t have a first round pick. Belichick needed to make trades and use free agency to plug some holes and upgrade the roster and he did that.
