I’m Just Sayin: Baseball Voters Once Again Prove That They are an Irrational Lot.

Can someone please explain to me how only Ken Griffey Jr. and Mike Piazza were the only elected to the baseball hall of fame this year? Don’t get me wrong. Both were great players and they deserve to be in the hall. I just don’t understand how you can only elect two candidates when you so many other hall of fame worthy players still on the ballot?

I understand if some of these writers have a hard time voting for Bonds, Clemens, McGuire, Sosa or Bagwell but this would have been a good year to elect Tim Raines or Curt Schilling or Trevor Hoffman. All are worthy of induction especially Raines who has been on the ballot nine years now. He finished fourth this year.

It just doesn’t make sense to me to only elect two players into a hall of fame? What’s the point? Griffey and Piazza were worthy but to leave Raines, Schilling and Hoffman out makes zero sense to me! It speaks to just how asinine this process is. To this day, I have never understood how one group of men can have so much power. You could be a great player who played hard and played the game right but if you weren’t nice to the beat writers covering your team, they’ll screw you over down the road. Its such bullshit!

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred needs to intervene and find a way to change the election process. I know it may take a while, in fact it may take an act of God but he needs to push to reform the electoral process for Cooperstown. It’s not fair to punish great players because some stooge baseball writer doesn’t think they are hall of fame worthy. Other people need to have a say in the process.

I don’t want to take anything away from Junior and Piazza. As I said, they deserve to be in Cooperstown. However, so do Raines, Schilling and Hoffman. Until this process is overhauled, great players are going to have to wait because they didn’t play nice with some douche bag beat writer who has a vote and an ax to grind. I’m Just Sayin.
