Everett and Central Catholic will once again meet in the playoffs.
1.Central Catholic and Everett will feature two of the most explosive spread offenses in the state but it will also be a battle of two of the best coaches in the state in Chuck Adamopoulos and John DiBiaso.
Games like this are close and usually determined by which team wins the turnover battle and plays the best defense. This game however will come down to the quarterbacks, Jordan McAfee of Everett and Bret Edwards of Central Catholic. Whichever quarterback plays the best, will lead his team to victory.
2. Andover could struggle with John’s Prep for one simple reason. They won’t have the ball. I have a feeling Prep coach Brian St. Pierre’s offensive game plan will center around running the football and keeping E.J Perry and the Warriors on the sideline.
Injuries to quarterback Mike Yarin and wide receiver Hayden Rockett could also be another reason the Eagles play keep away.
3. Don’t be surprised if Catholic Memorial plays Xaverian tough but if I were a betting man, I would take the Hawks in this one. Defense wins championships and they have the best one in the state.
4. B.C High bounced back with a big opening round win over Braintree but this week they face a Brockton team that is hitting its stride offensively and looking to avenge a 20-0 loss to the Eagles earlier this season.
5. King Philip, Marshfield will be a war tonight. The two teams met in the 2014 Division 2 South Sectional Final with the Rams beating the Warriors 20-12. Expect a similar type of game tonight.
6. Wellesley will have its hands full with Bridgewater-Raynham but the Raiders have scored a combined 79 the last two weeks. The Raiders are more than just a defensive program. They’ll give B.R running back Shawn Noel and company all they can handle tomorrow and then some.
7. Dartmouth and North Attleboro scrimmage each other every pre-season so there will be no secrets in this one. Both teams know each other well which will make for a great game tonight in D2 South.
8. I know Duxbury is the prohibitive favorite in D2 South but don’t sleep on the Stoughton Black Knights in this game. Coach Greg Burke is a terrific defensive coach and the Knights can ball control Duxbury with their Pistol Wing-T running game.
By the way, Duxbury better get used to teams playing keep away. Would you let Bobby Maimaron and company touch the ball seven or eight times a game? I wouldn’t.
9. Division 2A South features two quality match-ups between Falmouth and Milton and Westwood and Silver Lake. Both games could be high scoring affairs, especially the Falmouth, Milton game. That game will feature the Dem-Ball spread offense (Brendan Hall reference) vs. Flexbone Triple Option.
10. Holliston and Hanover are on a collision course in D3 South. First however, they have to get past Dighton-Rehoboth and Ashland. Both programs are well coached and they could derail the anticipated showdown between the Panthers and Indians.
