Haverhill hires native son Rob Pike as head football coach

Haverhill High School announced yesterday that they have hired Rob Pike as head football coach. It is a home coming for Pike who is a 1999 graduate for the school and he teaches at the school. His father Bob was the head coach at Haverhill from 1986 to 1999.

Pike was the offensive coordinator at Andover last season helping the Warriors to a 10-1 season. Prior to that, he was the head football coach at Salem High School in New Hampshire. Pike led the Blue Devils to a led the Blue Devils to a 50-23 record and three straight trips to the Division I semifinals in his seven seasons. He was the head coach at Lowell High School in 2020 and 2021.

A proven program builder, the 42 year old Pike inherits a difficult situation at his alma mater. The program was rocked by a hazing scandal last season that ultimately cost former Hillies coach Tim O’Connor his job after being at the helm the past 13 seasons. Now Pike is tasked with rebuilding the program on and off the field.

There has been universal praise regarding Pike’s hire from coaches all over Northern Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Considering the circumstances, Haverhill couldn’t have done any better. Pike is a home run hire. Now he has to turn things around.
