Green and Gold Pride Blog: Celtics Fans Can Forget About Joe Johnson. He’s Not Coming Here.

Sorry Celtics fans. Joe Johnson is not walking through that door.

The Brooklyn Nets released the veteran shooting guard Joe Johnson this afternoon. Before Celtics fans get excited, the former Celtics first rounder is not coming back to Boston. It’s not going to happen. There was a report circulating earlier today that the Celtics were one of seven teams interested in Johnson’s services. Boston might be interested but according to sources, the feeling is not mutual.  Johnson wants to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

I don’t blame Johnson. Cleveland has the best chance of any team in the east to get to the finals. If the 34 year old Johnson is serious about winning a championship, Cleveland is probably his best chance of the teams that are interested in him.

Johnson is a good player but he’s not what he once was. He’s lost a step or two and he wouldn’t put the Celtics over the top or help them compete with Cleveland for that matter.

This is all a moot point of course because free agents don’t sign here for whatever reason. They never have! Johnson won’t buck that trend. He’d rather live in Cleveland and play with Lebron. You can’t blame him forwarding to play with James.

While Johnson coming back to Boston would have been nice, I never once thought it was going to happen. It’s the Celtics! I love them but no one ever signs here. I’m used to it and you should be too.
