Jake Attaway recently committed to Merrimack College after wrapping up a stellar career at Hudson High School and post graduate year at Phillips-Exeter Academy.
Attaway led Hudson to a Division 6 state title in 2024, wrapping up one of the most decorated high school careers in state history. Last season, he did a post graduate year at Phillips-Exeter, playing for Panos Voulgaris. Attaway played in six games before injuring his non throwing hand. He put up big numbers throwing for 1,109 yards, 14 touchdowns and rushing for 598 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.
Playing at Phillips-Exeter proved to be a good decision for Attaway. It prepared him for his opportunity at Merrimack.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity and excited for this upcoming season. I had limited interest from schools after my senior season. Albany offered me late but I had already begun the post graduate process. I knew a post graduate year at Phillips Exeter would be the best decision for my future and I’m so thankful to them and Merrimack.”
When it came time to deciding on a school, Attaway had interest from several school but Merrimack was in on him early and that proved to be the difference. Attaway decided to commit citing the fit of the school for him personally.
“I committed to Merrimack because everything about the school and program felt right. I wanted to play for a program that wanted and believed in me. Merrimack checked all the boxes and I think this is a place I can continue to grow as a student-athlete.”
Being as competitive as he is, Attaway fully expects to walk on campus and compete for playing time. It is the way he is wired. Whether it’s football, basketball or any other sport he is playing, Attaway always competes at a high level and works hard.
“Coach Gennetti and Coach Rosenbaum made it clear that I have to earn reps and make the most of my reps. I plan to work hard, show that I can be a great teammate and leader, and show I can help the team win games. There is a lot of talent in the QB room. The only thing I can control is how hard I work in the off season and taking advantage of those reps I get preseason. I am willing to help the team in any way in any role.”
Each kid who puts on a helmet and shoulder pads dreams of playing college football at the Division One level. Attaway says he is blessed and he hopes his story inspires other young boys and girls in Hudson to pursuit their dreams.
“It’s definitely a blessing. It has been a goal of mine since starting in second grade and everything I’ve put into the sport feels like it’s finally paying off. It’s nice to know that no matter what town you’re from, you’re going to get an opportunity it’s just what you do with that opportunity. I hope other kids from Hudson can believe the same thing and not take any of it for granted.”
