Former Lawrence Academy standout Ty Chan transfers to UConn

UConn continues to crush the portal and on Monday night, they added another big addition to their offensive line, literally and figuratively. According to On3 Sports Pete Nakos, former Lawrence Academy standout and Notre Dame offensive tackle Ty Chan is transferring to UConn.

The 2022 four star recruit has played mostly special teams during his time in South Bend and is looking for an opportunity to get more playing time. Chan has two years of eligibility remaining.

The 6’5 320 pound Chan is a good athlete and a former basketball player. He offers scheme versatility in that he can play guard or tackle. He has requisite length and good feet. He plays with good balance and patience as a pass blocker but he needs to show more bite as a run blocker. He needs to bend better and play with a lower pad level.

Chan chose the Irish over offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Vanderbilt, Nebraska, Boston College and others.

Chan never started a game for the Irish and only played eight snaps this season. He should compete for a starting job this spring, especially with the Huskies graduating both Valentin Senn and Chase Lundt.

Chan is the second offensive tackle added by the Huskies in the portal, joining Brown grad transfer Hayden Bozich.
