First & 10: Ten Thoughts on The World of Football

Manning crushed it as host of the ESPY’s last night.

1. According to Dak Prescott, the Cowboys will win the NFC East this season. Settle down chief. I bet you can’t even name half of your starting defense.

2. Peyton Manning crushed it as host of the ESPY’s last night. I wouldn’t be surprised if he hosted them again next year.

3. Speaking of Manning, his Falcons line in his opening monologue was hysterical. It could take years for people to forget Atlanta’s epic collapse in Super Bowl LI.

4. Bucs cornerback Brent Grimes considered “switching” to basketball this off-season. I considered switching to decaf but then common sense prevailed. Give me a break! It’s not that easy dude!

5. Relocation will cost the Rams and Chargers $645 million dollars over the next eleven years. The Raiders will pay $378 million dollars over that time period to relocate to Las Vegas. The 29 other teams in the NFL will make $55.2 million per year over the eleven year period. So what is the point of relocating again?

6. Calvin Johnson admitted recently that playing in Detroit and having no chance to win a Super Bowl is part of the reason he retired. I kind of figured as much. At least Johnson waited a year before he gut punched his teammates. You have got to give him that.

7. Free agent running back De’Angelo Williams said in an interview that he would not sign with the Cowboys, Panthers or Jags. Last time I checked, beggars can’t be choosy. YOU DON’T HAVE A JOB DUDE!

8. As usual, Nick Saban did a masterful job at SEC Media Day yesterday down playing how good Alabama will be this season. Look, the Tide will be young, especially on defense but they return a lot of talent on offense and they will still be the pre-season favorite to win it all again.

9. ESPN did a masterful job yesterday during SEC Media Day of reminding us that Kevin Sumlin’s job is on the line at Texas A&M. WE KNOW!!! Athletic director Scott Woodward confirmed that last month. Jeesh!

10. I love SEC Media Day. Steve Spurrier refers to it as the talking season. It truly is the talking season. A lot of bologna has been thrown around all week long by the coaches regarding their programs and the respect they have for one another.
